How to use your yoga practice to see the big picture!

After an unprecedented couple of years that have at times felt exhausting, overwhelming and unpredictable, many of us are now finding our way back to familiar routines and rhythms.

While the structure and stability may be welcomed, it is also possible that we are a bit flat. Are you feeling unmotivated? Have your spirits been dampened by the shift from slowing down and being, to returning to rushing and the daily grind?

When we open our bodies in our yoga practice, we also open our minds to what is possible. My 60 minute flow class “See The Big Picture” encourages us to choose to see the bigger picture and to choose a happier thought.

My hope is that this class will bring you clarify and perspective, and that thinking bigger will help bring you back into alignment with your true purpose. As you align with our dreams, goals and purpose, feel how your motivation rises!

In the Surfside Yoga studio we teach classes in person and live on Zoom, at the same time. This recording was on a weekend morning class, so the blinds are up and the curtains open - so the light is not perfect. BUT, this is a lesson in itself as our yoga practice does not need to be perfect! Roll out your mat, use the affirmations and oils below and choose to see the big picture.

Affirmations

  • I trust in my abilities and the bigger picture of life

  • I choose to see the bigger picture

  • I practice seeing the positive side of each situation

  • I am easily able to see the big picture

  • I am open to new ways of perceiving myself and the world

  • I see the big picture at all times

  • I have the courage, confidence and ability to follow through on my dreams, goals and intentions.

Reflections or Journaling Prompts:

If you feel yourself sweating the small stuff or feeling unmotivated, bring your focus back to the big picture.

  • Am I looking at an individual comment, event or situation in isolation?

  • Can I choose to see the full context or situation?

  • Do this help me to choose a happier thought?

  • What am I grateful for?

  • What can I do this today/this week to move closer to my dreams and goals?

The Essential Oils

Motivate - The Oil of Motivation

I use this blend before every gym session and on many mornings to help me feel more positive and motivated. The blend of mints and citrus oils helps to ignite courage, confidence and positive action.

  • Use before exercise, yoga or work.

  • Dilute and apply to pulse points, temples, back of neck.

  • Place a drop in the palms + inhale; diffuse or inhale from bottle.

Clary Sage - The Oil of Clarity & Vision

The emotional properties of this oil are all about helping us to change our perceptions.

Washing away negativity and illusion, it helps us to remain open to new ideas, perspectives and experiences. It invites us to expand our vision and imagine new possibilities.

  • Apply 1 - 2 drops to the forehead or behind the ears.

  • Inhale from the bottle or diffuse, or lace drops in hand, rub and inhale.
